bit of a mouthful bit stick with me – all will become clear.

We don’t like do jargon but the rest of the internet does and seeing as we are going to be showing videos I need you to know some jargon,

if you learn anything from this site please learn these few bits of jargon.

SEO – Search Engine Optimization

This is anything that enables your site to appear higher in a list of search engine results. when people say this is good for SEO that’s what they mean

SERPS – this is Search Engine Results PageS  - when you type something into google etc. it shows you some pages relating to what you types in that is SERPS.

KEYWORDS sometimes abbreviated to KW’s these are the words you type into google if there is more than one word then it’s a key phrase.

Back to long tail key phrase marketing

Suppose you wanted to sell printers with your website, that is a highly competitive market – lots of big companies spend millions promoting their websites to get to the top of SERPS.

You’ve got no chance of getting listed in serps with keywords like “printer” “inkjet” “Laser”  or key phrases like “inkjet printer”  “laser printer”

You do however have a chance of getting listed with key phrase such as

  • “Epson Stylus Photo R2400 A3 Colour Inkjet Printer”
  • “good A3 printer that you can print colour with”
  • “Jargon free printer”

Not many people search for those key phrases, they’re low volume but I’m willing to bet long tail key phrases will account for at least 50% of  printer related  searches.

The video below goes into detail with this search engine marketing strategy.

I will cover Pay per click (PPC) and Analytics in another post soon. they are both things that anyone can do and they’re pretty easy.
